Solid, elevated lumps or bumps in the skin, usually 1/2 cm or larger, where no fluid or “head” is visible.  Nodules may become abscesses if a they soften and collect fluid inside, or a “head” forms.

Nodules differ from papules in that they are larger.  Nodules differ from abscesses and pustules in that a nodule does not contain fluid or have a visible “head.”
